About us
It became obvious soon after we started the course that the MA in Image and Communication was designed for both practitioners and theorists of the visual arts, including animation, graphic design, photography and video. The 20 creative individuals of MA I&C 2012 come from different countries worldwide and bring a variety of skill sets and ideas to the course, making it incredibly versatile and interesting.
"The MA in Image and Communication is a platform that enables us to research and develop new boundaries of image making. Drawing widely on theory and referencing a variety of cultural aspects, we engage with facets of visual style and media production to create our work."
As part of the course we have learned to use medium and large format analogue photography, including developing and printing our films and photos, which was new to many of us. We dived into the world of animation and became familiar with its techniques, such as stop motion. Also new to many of us was working in video production and electronic graphics, both resulting in the creation of excellent durational image productions and our own personal websites.
This course certainly helped us shape new ideas and interpretations of image making. Some of us have specialised in either (analogue and/ or digital) photography, video or electronic graphics, others have a mixed media approach and combine them all to create their work.
You can see this fusion of media practice and theory throughout this website and at the Degree Show between 5-9 July 2012.
